Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen

Member of the Storting, President of the Storting (2018 - 2021)

Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen (born 23 February 1966) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party (Høyre) and an experienced Member of Parliament. During her lengthy service in national politics, she has held several prominent positions, not the least of which is her tenure as President of the Storting from 2018 to 2021.

Biography and Career

  • Early Life and Background: Ms Trøen was born in Bærum, Akershus, is a trained nurse, and has 20 years of experience in the private business sector.
  • Parliamentary Career: She was first elected to the Storting from the constituency of Akershus in 2013. She has served on several committees, including the Standing Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs, and the Standing Committee on Health and Care Services, where she held the position of chair in both.
  • President of the Storting: From 15 March 2018 to 9 October 2021, Ms Trøen was the President of the Storting, the highest-ranking parliamentary position in Norway.
  • Current Role: She was re-elected for the 2025–2029 term, and is currently a member of the Storting’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

 

Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen is a strong advocate of youth and women’s participation in politics. On frequent occasions, she has shared her experience and views on the impact of hate speech and harassment in public life and their effect on democracy. Ms Trøen is particularly committed to combating domestic violence and violence against women.
