Juliane Hilf

Partner, Global Head of ESG Risk & Advisory, Board Member

Juliane Hilf is a Partner at Freshfields and leads the firm’s global ESG Risk & Advisory Group. She is widely recognised for advising clients on emerging regulatory developments and helping them navigate, shape and respond to evolving legal frameworks and the associated risks. Clients value her extensive experience engaging with regulators, policymakers and other key stakeholders across Europe.

Her practice focuses on sustainability-related regulatory developments and the risks arising from an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape. She has authored a number of influential reports on the role of sustainability in investment decision-making for the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), and The Generation Foundation.

In addition, Juliane serves as Co-Chair of the Board of PLAN International Germany promoting children’s rights, with a particular focus on advancing equality for girls and was Ombudsperson for PLAN International for a number of years.

Juliane is also an Honorary Professor at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where she teaches European law. She is recognised as a leading practitioner by the relevant directories and has published extensively on sustainability and regulatory matters. She holds a PhD from Heidelberg University.
