Guy Verhofstadt
When I started my political career in the 1970s, female politicians were an absolute exception. But the few we counted in our ranks were phenomenal. They were so much braver than us, men, in speaking out and fighting for equal rights. They were the drivers behind social progress and ethical change. And today, women keep on making the difference in politics. That’s why it is vital that the fight for political equality between women and men continues. We can only build fair, strong, democratic societies when women lead as much as men. We shouldn’t settle for anything less.
