Brussels, March 2022 – Women Political Leaders (WPL) is honoured to welcome Delphine O as WPL Special Envoy for Generation Equality. Delphine O has served as a Member of the French National Assembly from 2017 to 2019 and has recently been appointed as the Secretary-General of the Generation Equality Forum in 2021.
As a distinguished political leader, having served as a Member of the French National Assembly (2017-2019), and recently as Secretary-General of the Generation Equality Forum (2021), Delphine O brings a wealth of knowledge, influence, and experience that will help achieve WPL’s mission and commitments to Generation Equality. Generation Equality is a 5-year initiative launched by multi-stakeholder partners and spearheaded by UN Women, the Governments of France, and Mexico to promote and accelerate the rights of women and girls globally. As part of a larger effort to catalyse leaders to take action towards the objectives of Generation Equality, Action Coalitions were formed comprising a broad spectrum of stakeholders including governments, civil society, and the private sector. WPL holds a lead role in the Action Coalition that focuses on women’s leadership and has made ambitious commitments to work with its network of women politicians for the next 5 years to drive legislative and societal change. “Delphine O is a true inspiration for women’s leadership and the gender equality agenda. She has led incredible efforts to rally international and multi-stakeholder support to make the Generation Equality Forum a reality. WPL is very excited to appoint her as WPL Special Envoy. Delphine O is ambassador-at-large and Secretary-General for the Generation Equality Forum (Beijing+25). She has been an ardent advocate for the fulfilment of the women’s leadership and equality agenda throughout her career so far. She led the organisation of the largest international summit for women’s rights since 1995, convened by UN Women and co-chaired by France and Mexico. She was previously a Member of Parliament for La République en Marche, elected in Paris. A member of the Foreign Relations Committee and Chairwoman of the France-Iran friendship group at the French National Assembly, she authored a report on the strategic stakes in the South China Sea. Delphine O graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the Harvard Kennedy School. After working at the French embassy in Seoul, the Consulate General in New York, and the Stimson Center in Washington, she moved to Iran and co-founded the information website “Persian Letters”. She is a French-American Young Leader 2019, Munich Young Leader 2019, member of the Council at the Council on Foreign Relations, member of the Strategic Orientation Board of the German Marshall Fund France, and a board member of IRIS (Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques). “I am delighted to be appointed WPL Special Envoy for the Generation Equality Forum and to deepen our partnership with Women Political Leaders.
