>Tunisia National Assembly has approved with a large majority of votes an article in the draft Constitution that would guarantee gender equality in the country. The new Constitution should be adopted next week.

The new Article 20 states: “All male and female citizens have the same rights and duties. They are equal before the law without discrimination”. Women’s rights activists in Tunisia have hailed the approval of the article despite some international voices consider that the sentence is too vague.

It is a fact that national Constitutions have a significant impact on women.
