The newly established Executive Board of the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) met for the first time during the WIP Global Summit in Amman, Jordan, on Thursday 5th May.
In attendance were Ms Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, Member of Parliament for Iceland and Chair of the Executive Board, Ms Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Founder of WIP and Former Vice-President of the European Parliament, Ms Linda Lanzillotta, Vice-President of the Italian Senate, Ms Lucero Saldaña Member of the Mexican Senate and Ms Loren Legarda, Member of the Senate of the Philippines, joined via video phone.
The discussions at this first meeting focused on deciding on the formal structure of the Executive Board, organising the work ahead and sharing ideas on how the board can exercise its main purpose of supporting and enhancing the WIP mission.
The Executive Board is appointed for two years and in the coming months extra efforts will focus upon coordination between WIP and national Parliaments and strengthening the network of the WIP Ambassadors, and the WIP working councils.
