The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) gathered in Washington D.C, from 8-11 October 2014, on the occasion of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting 2014.
From 8 to 9 October, WIP Delegates joined the Parliamentary Network Meeting of the World Bank and the IMF. This meeting gave female Parliamentarians a unique opportunity to engage with senior management and experts of the IMF and the World Bank Group, to discuss current issues related to international finance and development. The Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, introduced the 2-day meeting, which addressed issues like climate and energy pricing, youth employment solutions, gender equality and global economy.
On Friday 10 October, within the framework of the World Bank/IMF Civil Society Forum, WIP co-hosted the Special Session “How does economic empowerment of women enhance stability in fragile and transition contexts?.” This Session was followed by a WIP Community Workshop and a WIP Community reception, gathering WIP Delegates and members of the WIP Advisory Board.
On Saturday 11, WIP Delegates visited the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the only major museum in the world dedicated exclusively to recognizing the achievements of women artists.
