Participants coming from 45 different countries will study Rwanda’s success in female political empowerment and claim for the need for more women in politics worldwide
Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, and Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, will address the international audience of female leaders during a joint session with the MDG Advocacy Group
The WIP Advisory Board Members Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairwoman of the African Union Commission, and Muhammad Mumuni, ACP Secretary General, will participate in the Summit.

20 years after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the Republic of Rwanda has a majority of women in the Parliament (64% of MPs). The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) is organising its “WIP Summer Summit 2014” in the Parliament of Rwanda from 1 to 3 July 2014.
More than 100 Female Parliamentarians coming from all continents have confirmed their participation in this event. The MPs will study Rwanda’s success in female political empowerment, while addressing the need for more women in decision-making positions in politics and in reconciliation processes.
The Programme of the WIP Summer Summit 2014 includes Plenary Sessions between female MPs which will be introduced by prominent keynote speakers like Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, and Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda. On 3 July, the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Advocacy Group will join the international Parliamentarians to discuss about the next round of goals, focusing on the need for more progress in female political empowerment.
During the Session “The impact of Constitutions and Legislation to establish gender equality and enable women empowerment”, UN Women will present its Constitutional Database which provides an important overview of the inclusion of women’s rights in constitutions in different countries.
On 4 July 2014, all the participants of the WIP Summer Summit 2014 will take part in the official celebrations of the Liberation Day at the Amahoro Stadium. This day marks the 20th anniversary of the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the beginning of the reconciliation process and the rebuilding of the country, where women have played a very important role.
