The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) is glad to announce Peter Sutherland, as a Member of the WIP Advisory Board.
Peter Sutherland is the United Nations Special Representative for Migration and Development since January 2006. He advises the Secretary-General on international migration and development related issues. Mr. Sutherland proposed and supported the creation of the State-led Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), at which over 150 countries meet annually to discuss international cooperation on migration.
Peter Sutherland served as Attorney General of Ireland from 1981 to 1984. He also served as EU Commissioner responsible for Competition Policy, Director General of The World Trade Organisation, and was a member of the United Nations Commission on Human Security. He has received numerous awards and honorary degrees for his work on regional and global interdependence.
The WIP Advisory Board includes outstanding political leaders and influential personalities from civil society, the private sector, intergovernmental organizations and academia who have endorsed the WIP Mission Statement by becoming Members of the Advisory Board. They oversee and provide guidance for all the WIP initiatives.
